Since 2009, the Empire State Building, icon of New York, has undergone the most complex considered engineering retrofit of the U.S.

The Empire State Building, a New York icon, has since 2009 been the object of a retrofit that is generally considered to be the most complex undertaken by U.S. engineering. According to Dana Schneider, manager of the JLL head office that is handling the work, US$550 million is being spent on retrofitting the building. In the coming years, the Empire State Building will be a benchmark for sustainability in the retrofit process. The special LED lighting on the structure was publicly unveiled at the end of 2012.

Singer Alicia Keys was responsible for the inauguration, activating the switch for the monument from the studios of Clear Channel.
